Acrylic and oil on canvas (40 x 50 cm)
"The painting embodies my sense of confusion in being a transplant in Berlin. The small and unassuming 40x50 cm acrylic and oil on canvas piece depicts the style of house I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. It is a McMansion style home that is the epitome of American ideals, small and made of cheap materials but made to look large and grand like a movie set mansion. Over the top I write Karl Marx strasse a street I have lived on in Berlin.

In the painting is my swirl of feelings of being an immigrant, a gentrifier, someone who moves to a new city for a better life and more opportunities, someone who takes the place of another seeking the same. There is less of a judgement in the simple style and more a state of confusion. One of which I feel many who come to Berlin share."
